The Cousineau Family, Alpena, Michigan
My name is Brad Cousineau and I'm from Alpena, MI, a fairly small town in the northeastern part of the lower peninsula. I'm going to be 15 in January and I'm very active with soccer, hockey and baseball. I was diagnosed 2 years ago and want to say good luck to all who have diabetes; it isn't an easy thing to have. Don't let anyone tell you differently.
I just received Rufus, and I think it's amazing to see how many places this bear has been and how many people he has met. I will let you know where I take Rufus for the next week or so, but for now, I just wanted to say Hi.
Rufus went to work with Brad's mom at the elementary school where Brad attended. He met many of Brad's former teachers and many of the young students. All were pleased to have him visit us, and he even got to help install Mrs. Cousineau's new computer that was delivered!!
Rufus and Brad had an appointment with the Diabetic Educator at Alpena General Hospital. Her name is Pari Greene. She meets with Brad on a regular basis and monitors his blood sugar numbers. She adjusts his basal and bolus rates on his pump and generally keeps him in line. Brad enjoys his visits with Pari. She is a great friend and mentor.
Tonight Rufus took a trip to the hockey rink for my practice. I had a great time and it was nice to know what diabetics like me around the U.S. are connected by a single bear and I was part of it!! Thanks, Merry Christmas and good luck to everyone.
