Class of 2003
Ian Klink will graduate from high school in May 2003. He has had diabetes since he was 12. He currently takes Humalog and Ultralente.
During his four years of high school, Ian has been active in theater, speech, chorus and band. He was elected to the Iowa State Thespian board, as well as the International Thespian board. Only six students are elected to this board from across the US. During his speech competitions, he has done several speeches on diabetes. This year, he made All-State in two categories for his speaking.
Ian has been nominated to several youth leadership conferences. He was also selected by the faculty of his school to receive the QC Times Students Journalist.
He is active in his local church. He teaches Jr. High Sunday School, participates in church dramas and band, has taken part in three Appalachian service project work camps, and has been a Page at his denomination's yearly conference.
Ian has been in 4-H for 10 years. Since his diagnosis, he has done many projects on diabetes, from foods to warning signs. For the past four years, he has participated in Diabetes Camp, including two years as a CIT and one year as a Senior CIT. This year he will be attending camp as a Counselor.
This fall, Ian will be going to college. He plans to major in Mass Communications with a minor in Theater. His ultimate goal is to make movies.
