Hi, my name is Owen and am 10 1/2 years old and I live in BC, Canada. I was diagnosed June 7, 2005 with a blood sugar of 370. I was very sick but didn't know what was wrong with me. My parents thought that it might be diabetes because I had some symptoms. I had painful legs, I was thirsty all the time, I had blurred vision and weight loss. I went to the doctor and he did a test and said, "I think you have diabetes" and told my Dad to take me to the Children's Hospital. They tested me and said I had diabetes for sure. My parents and I then went Diabetes Clinic for 3 days to learn what to do.
Some days I hate diabetes and just don't want it but I try to be positive. I love playing lacrosse as well as soccer but lacrosse is my most favorite sport. I am goalie in both sports. My dad finds it tough trying to work with the blood sugars for lacrosse but it's working out so far.
I would really like to talk to other kids about diabetes and other stuff.
You can email me and my parents at
