Hey I'm Jennifer and I was diagnosed August 2003. I'm now 12 and I'm using the pump. I love it!
Sometimes I get frustrated when I have to test my blood sugar. It is like I have to do it every 5 seconds! I used to have to do 4 to 5 shots a day! Now I just change my site every 3 days. If you still do shots you should think about the pump. There are a lot of different brands. I have the MiniMed.
I love to do sports like cheerleading and gymnastics. It makes me feel normal. How I found out I had diabetes was when I had to have a cheerleading physical. My Mom told my doctor that I've been drinking a lot of water and having to use the bathroom all the time. So I had to take a blood test and they told me I had type 1 diabetes. I had to go to the hospital. I was so scared. I thought I was going to get really sick. When I got there they tested my blood sugar and it was something like 250.
