My name is Yael. I was diagnosed with diabetes five years ago. Here's what's been going on since then. I'm 6 1/2 years old and in the first grade. My life continues to have some challenges and I sometimes get annoyed, mostly when I have to stop playing to take my sugar. But overall, it's been a blast.
I enjoy many team sports including soccer, basketball and most of all football! I love to swim, hang out with my friends and relatives and go on sleepovers with my favorite cousin, Wesley. I am responsible for taking my own blood sugar now and have also learned to set up my Humalog pen for my mom or sisters to give my shots. My mom hopes I can be an inspiration to other small children who deal with diabetes like me!
