Back to Kids' Voices Stephanie

Hi my name is Stephanie and I'm 12 years old. I like music and hanging out with my friends. My faveorite songs are "She hates me", "Am I still waiting" and "Superman". My friends are real supportive and they help me a lot! My friends Kim, Mary and Michelle really help me a lot. Especailly Kim, she is always there for me. Like when I was in the hospital, she was talking to me on the phone when ever she could, even when they were drawing blood from me. She would hear me say "ouch" and she would be like, "Are you okay?" She is really caring. I like skateboarders, I can't skateboard, but I still think it's cool. I love Spongebob Squarepants, I think he is so awesome!

I have had diabetes for 3 1/2 years now and I have had the pump for 2 years. I found out that I had diabetes because I was drinking a lot and I wouldn't eat at all. I lost about 8 pounds in one week. I was really lazy also. So my mom took me to the doctor and they found out I had large ketones, so they sent me to the hospital to have my blood tested. When the results came in it said that my blood sugar was 788. I had to stay in the hospital for a week, then I went home. I had to do and learn a lot of things in order to take care of myself! But now 3 years later, I'm doing great! The pump is way better then shots. But it's still no joy ride, but it's better then it used to be!
