Back to Kids' Voices David

Photo Hi my name is David and I was diagnosed August 7 1999. I live in Sonoma County, California. I like most sports but my favorites are golf, baseball and basketball. My favorite subjects in school are History, PE, Art, science and math. I think having diabetes has a big effect on my life and personality.

When I first got diabetes I was at Plantation Farm Camp. When my parents came to visit me they saw the symptoms, so they brought a glucometer to my camp. They tested my glucose and it was to high for the meter to read. They took me to the local clinic and had my blood drawn. Then I went back to camp, the next day I had to be rushed to the hospital even tough I wasn't sick at all. The hospital opened up the pediatrics ward just for me. The doctor said I learned faster than 99% of most kids, that made me much feel better.

Throughout my experience with my school and friends I've had a lot of problems. When I was in my first school, they had a big problem with my diabetes and didn't let me do the things I have to do. So I moved to a new school and I'm learning much more and they let me do what ever I need.

Now I have pump and it is working out very well. I can take insulin when ever I need it and it gives me insulin throughout the day. The doctor will probably tell you all the risks and then you won't want it, but trust me its worth it.

If you have any questions about the pump or just want to e-mail me, you can e-mail me. I would love to get in contact with other people with diabetes, so you can e-mail me at doggyboy [at]
