Hi my name is Texas Taylor Crowe. I was diagnosed with diabetes when I was 4 years old. I am now 7 1/2. I go to a school in Imperial, Missouri. It is a very small school from Pre-Kindergarten thru 6th grade. Believe it or not I am the only diabetic there and everyone knows about my condition and supports me 100%. In February 2001, nine sixth graders at my school formed a committee and started the first Dimes and Dollars for Diabetes. They raised $1,092.00 for Camp Hickory Hill, a camp that I will be attending for the first time this year. My mom, dad and brother are volunteering to be camp counselors. My whole school participated and they offered a first and second place prize for the classes who raised the most, plus a beautiful Trophy that Meremac Trophy and Sign donated. My first grade class won first place raising $339.00 and a fifth grade class won second raising $229.00. It was really fun having a whole month dedicated to my diabetes. Iknow now that I am not alone and that people really care. I love my school and everybody there. They are making this an Annual event. Next year their aiming for a goal of $1,500.00.
I wanted to write and tell everyone about my school because I think they are very special. If anyone would like to find out how to start a school fundraiser you can talk to me and my mom (Mistie) and we can help you start one or offer ideas.
I also wanted to let everyone know that me and my mom (Mistie) are wanting to hear from special people for the walk this year. My team is called Texas Tornado's and we want to find others to join forces with us or become a Texas Tornado team member or if you need help with fundraising ideas just email us at [email protected] We look forward to hearing from you. Let's make this the best Walk ever.
