Back to Kids' Voices Amy-Lee

Hi, my name is Amy-Lee Evans. I am 10 years old and live in Queensland Australia. I was diagnosed with diabetes in November 1999. I test myself several times a day sometimes with sometimes not the greatest of control. I have mixed insulin twice a day and sometimes a top up of another one if necessary.

The morning I was diagnosed was awful Mum was crying everybody was confused.I had a drip in my arm but I didn"t care because it was making me feel better I spent a week in hospital learning all about diabetes and eating right. The symptoms had been there but we never realized until the doctors visit. My thirst because it was very hot, my loss of weight because I had also grown 3cm, my going to the toilet because of all the extra water I was drinking, then I a got a bell ache Mum thought at first it was just a virus, then decided to take me to the doctor he seemed to know straight away and off we went to hospital.

I would love to hear from some other kids with diabetes. My email address is leonie[@]
