Hi. My name is Cody. I am 7 years old. I was diagnosed with diabetes the week of April 11, 1998. My dad noticed I was thirsty all the time and had to go to the bathroom a lot. My parents tried to get me to see my doctor, but it was going to be a while. So my dad checked my blood on his meter. My dad also has diabetes. When he checked my blood it was 597 so my parents took me to the emergency room. Later I was transferred to the children's hospital. I stayed there two days. It is a nice hospital.
I take three shots everyday. I am on a soccer team and a swim team. I got a second place ribbon in breast stroke at my last swim meet.
I am learning about how to count my carbohydrates. My mom is good at my meals and snacks. My dad is great with checking my blood level and my shots. My mom is learning but sometimes she cries when she gives me my shots and she hugs me a lot.
My parents and my aunt are trying to get me to a camp for kids with diabetes this summer. That way I can learn about diabetes with other kids my age.
