From United States:

I know of a person who does not treat their type 2 diabetes/hyperglycemia as they feel that there are no scientific studies (i.e., PubMed) that show that there is a better outcome of fewer complications and less early death in drug treated type 2 diabetics compared to a control group of non-drug treated type 2 diabetics. This person believes that insulin resistance is beneficial, as well as hyperglycemia. They see no reason for euglycemia. They believe hypoglycemia is unnatural and that (type 2) diabetes is the body's way of protecting itself from "relative hypoglycemic" distress, which according to them, can cause neurological damage to the brain and a multitude of symptoms ranging from tachycardia to schizophrenia. This person also believes that "relative hypoglycemia" is the trigger behind type 1 (autoimmune) diabetes, even though type 1 unbeneficially results in death (if untreated). They also believe that one meal per day of raw vegetables and raw egg can cure both type 1 and type 2 diabetes. They also think that there is no reason to think that obesity causes type 2 diabetes.

What are your responses that I should give to this person, who is adamant about their convictions? What PubMed or other such articles can you refer me to me to give them? Your thoughts based on the above are greatly appreciated.

I think that the views your acquaintance has expressed about the treatment of type 2 diabetes are very far from the truth and are not within the mainstream of sound medical care. If this person thinks that those views are consistent with the published literature, they are very much in error.

[Editor's comment: See And what about diabetes? and Bodyweight changes associated with antihyperglycaemic agents in type 2 diabetes mellitus., among others. You can search for other relevant articles at PubMed BH]
