I am a 21-year old, new to diabetes, and having trouble keeping away from sweets.
You don't have to have diabetes to find it hard to keep away from sweets but it is, of course, even more important for you to try. However, all is not lost because with a little planning you can incorporate some sweets into your diet. If you are active in sports then you may have some chocolate or two or three sweets before exercise. They are also legitimate treatment for hypos (genuine ones only, of course!).
In addition, if you have a small amount of something sweet at the end of a meal containing starchy food (rice, pasta, potato, etc.) then the sweets will be mixed up and not absorbed into your blood so quickly. So all is not doom and gloom.
