Back to Diabetes Basics The Diabetes Control and Complications Trial

The Diabetes Control and Complications Trial (DCCT) was a study conducted by the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), which is part of the United States National Institutes of Health. The DCCT demonstrated that people with Type 1 diabetes could reduce the risk of developing complications, and slow the progression of existing complications, by keeping their blood sugar levels as close to non-diabetic levels as possible.
