Back to Syringes and Injection Products autoject 2

The autoject 2 by Owen Mumford is an automatic injection device that not only injects the needle but also injects the insulin. This product could be useful for young children who are afraid of needles or who need extra help to do their own injections. It would also be very useful for those with impaired mobility in their hands, such as adults with arthritis.

The autoject 2 accommodates B-D 100 and 50 unit syringes, but not the 30 unit. It also works with Terumo 25's, so those who inject very small amounts of insulin can still use this product.

Using the autoject 2 is straightforward, if a little involved. The unit unscrews at about the middle, at the blue ring. The tapered bottom half serves as the cocking device. The top half houses the spring which pushes the syringe in and injects the insulin. After inserting a small platic extender into the tip of the bottom half, you push the spring back to cock the device.

With the top cocked, you remove the plastic extender from the bottom and insert the syringe loaded with insulin, with the needle exposed, into the bottom piece. During insertion of the syringe, you must be careful not to touch the needle to the inside of the autoject 2. With the syringe inside the botton half, you then carefully screw the bottom and top together. The autoject 2 is now ready for use.

The autoject 2 has a safety feature that prevents it from firing unless pressed against something--like your skin. Once in place, you press the trigger on the top half and the injection is over faster than you could do it manually.

You set the injection depth of the autoject 2 by unscrewing the tip of the tapered bottom half. There are two screw-in tips to accommodate most injection depth needs. You can easily set the autoject 2 to give a very shallow injection for young kids and a deeper injection for older kids.

The autoject 2 comes with a nylon carrying case and multi-lingual instruction manual.

Reports from several visitors to children with DIABETES who use the autoject 2 have been very positive.
