The insuflon™ is an angled injection port that you can use to reduce the stress of insulin injections. Like an insulin pump infusion set, the insuflon is inserted once every three days, and all insulin injections are then done through the insuflon. Clinical trials found no change in blood sugar control when using an insuflon compared with standard injections.

The insuflon is very similar to the Comfort angled insulin pump infusion set, which is also made by Unomedical. We highly recommend the use of a numbing cream such as L.M.X.4 or EMLA when using angled infusion sets and the insuflon to eliminate the pain of the insertion. Once inserted, the insuflon, like the Comfort, is not noticeable.

Anyone who has a hard time with insulin injections should consider using either the insuflon or the I-Port. These devices reduce skin punctures to one every three days and have been shown to reduce injection anxiety.

Donika, 3 years, sits in her mother's lap when she gets her injections. If she is hungrier than anticipated, she will just get an extra injection after the meal without any extra pain. (In this photo, the Insuflon is being used.)
