Makayla Green
Diagnosed January 3, 2008

I am 12 years old. I live in Georgia with my parents Lisa and Michael. I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in January 2008. It is suckish to have Diabetes but I have have learned through camp and my doctors that it's not so bad. Education and awareness are very important and taking our insulin and eating healthy and exercise are key! Don't be afraid -- just be determined and go for it!! We are diabetic but that doesn't mean we cant do anything we want. We can and do everyday. Just like everyone else.

I have four siblings: Shawn 19, Michael 21 Nina 16 and Korina 21. I am the only diabetic in my entire family. I am happy about that. I can deal with it. I am strong!

My hobbies are horseback riding and tennis. I love to hang out with my friends. Diabetes does not change what I can do it just makes it a bit more of a challenge. Diabetes has taught me to be more responsible and to enjoy myself and remember that diabetes is a disease that is manageable and that one day with lots of prayers and hard work of all the wonderful researchers there will be a cure! Don't stop believing. It will happen!
