Over 1,100 people from 34 states and 12 countries journeyed to Pasadena, California for our third annual conference, entitled Friends for Life. The conference was held from July 17 to 21, 2002 at the Pasadena Convention Center. Families stayed in three local hotels. Some local families drove in for the day.
Just like the past two years, kids who had never seen another person with diabetes found kindred spirits in blood tests, insulin injections, and pump boluses. Parents, many for the first time, realized that their concerns and struggles were shared by hundreds of others. Health care professionals talked to families and kids, sharing guidance and experiences with families eager to learn. And our generous sponsors were overwhelmed as kids and parents visited their booths to learn about the very latest in diabetes care products. Four pump companies offered pump trials, and many families participated.
