About 450 CWD families from around the world had arrived at the Renaissance Orlando Resort and our overflow properties by Tuesday, and many spent the day having some early theme park time, while others enjoyed the swimming pool area at the Renaissance and 'connecting time' with old and new friends.

Registration opened at noon, with Connie, Mary, Jo, and Lisa greeting those who had been waiting patiently (and anxiously) in line. Registration was busy all afternoon, and by 5:00 p.m., more than half of the conference registration packets had been picked up. That meant that people were walking around with name badges and we all could begin to figure out who was who!

Within Oceans Ballroom 1-8, the Exhibit Hall was being constructed by Freeman, the company that lays all of the pipe and drape and helps constructs the big, elaborate booths of our conference sponsors. Additionally, the Quilt for Life boards were set up in long rows in Oceans 9-12 in preparation for almost 700 beautiful, one-of-a-kind quilt squares to be displayed! At 4:00, a team of a dozen CWD volunteers led by Bob Esterhay began hanging the quilt squares, and by 6 p.m., it was done. Early viewers of the Quilt for Life commented that the experience was emotional and breath-taking. They also commented that having the Quilt displayed in a separate room accorded it a type of honor and respect which they felt it deserved!

Tuesday evening, the Volunteers Family Reception, sponsored by OmniPod, was held in the Upper Dolphins area of the Atrium. While we'd been hoping for an outdoor reception, the skies opened up just before the reception, so the volunteers were all quite happy meeting each other and sharing ice cream sundaes and beverages indoors! Conference volunteer t-shirts, white with turquoise lettering, were handed out to each volunteer, and then everyone shared refreshments and enjoyed the great company!
