The CWD Quilt for Life Display
Hundreds of CWD families from all over the world have sent quilt squares in honor and recognition of their children, to be part of the CWD Quilt for Life. This quilt was first shown at the 2002 Friends for Life Conference in Pasadena, and it has traveled across the country to different venues, bringing the faces and families of our children into focus for the rest of the world to see.
Our quilt squares will fill the Studio Suites Ballroom. Please take some time to come see this tremendous display of love and dedication to our children.
Grand Opening Reception
Join in the fun and excitement as we kick off the conference with the Grand Opening of the Exhibit Hall, hosted by Aventis Pharmaceuticals, Wednesday evening at 6:30 p.m.! After a day of playing at the pool, traveling, or visiting the parks, there will be nothing better than exploring the exhibit aisles, talking with conference participants and company representatives, and coming away with some new ideas and fun souvenirs. Ballerina Zippora Karz will be on hand to meet-n-greet the youngsters at the IDYA booth. Hot and cold snacks will be served.
Kids Fun Run
What better way to get the kids off on the right foot than a Fun Run! Join our sponsor Novo Nordisk for a quick run up the hill to Universal Studios and back (about 1/2 a mile or so - steep uphill). The event begins at 7:30 a.m. sharp on Thursday. It's a great way to start the day and work up an appetite for breakfast! You can run, jog, or simply stroll. This activity is especially for children, although parents are welcome to join as escorts. Medals will be presented to all children who participate. If your child wishes to use this as an opportunity to raise a few dollars for the Children with Diabetes Foundation, use the Fun Run Pledge Sheet to collect names and pledges. Breakfast will immediately follow the Kids Fun Run.
Thursday Buffet Breakfast
Start the day off on a healthy note with a yummy buffet breakfast, sponsored by Novo Nordisk, served right by the Exhibit Hall in the Ballroom Circle - outdoors in the fresh air! Food will be served from 8:00 - 9:00 (sessions start promptly at 9:00; childcare opens at 8:00). This is a great chance to sit down with your family, catch your breath after the Fun Run, have a nutritious breakfast, and plan out the morning!
Thursday Snack Breaks
Snacks, sponsored by Medtronic MiniMed, will be offered by the Exhibit Hall from 10:15 - 10:45 a.m. and from 2:45 - 3:15 p.m. Browse the exhibits on your way in or out -- this is a fine opportunity to have a cup of coffee and a treat, and learn something new from our many exhibitors!
Lunch and Learn!
Participants from last year's conference indicated that the days went much more smoothly because CWD provided lunch. We are happy to do so again this year! On Thursday, a buffet lunch will be available in the tented area outdoors, generously sponsored by Roche Diagnostics. The featured speaker during Thursday's lunch is Michael Hunter, Founder of Flight for Diabetes. He's a wonderful speaker and has a fantastic story to share. On Friday, box lunches will be available in the foyer by the Exhibit Hall. The Pump Girls will perform in the outdoor tent, with a Meet-n-Greet following. Two discussion groups are also offered during lunch on Friday. Lunch break is a leisurely 90 minutes. You are required to pick up your children from childcare for lunch. Please take this opportunity to catch up with the exhibitors from whom you'd like more information... the Exhibit Hall will close at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. This is a great time to ask questions, try out some of the new technology, and broaden your horizons... all over lunch!
Family and Friends Banquet
Join some wonderful VIP entertainers at this outdoor evening event from 6:00 - 9:00 pm on Thursday in the tented dinner area, sponsored by LifeScan and Novo Nordisk. This event features a scrumptious buffet dinner right at 6:00, followed by the talents of some very energizing performers, including Hamish and Brother, and Zippora Karz! The evening will also include a 5-year retrospective in pictures of all of the CWD conferences... truly a celebration in photographs of our beautiful, healthy children. Enjoy the sunset and relax with your family and new friends!
Teen Dance - Dancing In the Stars!
Following the Thursday evening Banquet, teens are invited to dance the night away in the Rooftop Gardens (from 9:00 p.m. to midnight). Take the elevator to the very top floor of the Sheraton Universal, where you will find yourself literally dancing in the stars! Music will be provided by Awesome Entertainment. An ice cream sundae bar and beverages will be provided. Parents need to find someplace else to have fun for the evening... This is for Teens Only (ages 12 and older, please)! This very special Teen event is sponsored by Unomedical.

The kids are welcome to swim while the adults meet and chat. These gatherings will extend from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m.
It's Friday Night - What Should I Do?
By Request! CWD has once again not planned your Friday evening! Some suggestions? Stroll over to CityWalk (or take the shuttle) and have dinner in one of the many restaurants. There's a huge selection. The hard part will be deciding! Another option - grab a quick bite to eat and relax by the pool (the pool bar will stay open through the evening for snacks and drinks). Whatever you decide to do, be sure to go to bed early - Saturday is a busy day!
